ISP Update / March, 2006
Contents

GREETINGS

Greetings....several items hopefully in brief form for you as the sun is coming out, beaches are calling, spring break at universities is near, legislative sessions may be endings, and it's time to take a break anyway.

  • The ISP annual auction in Chicago raised about $7,100 gross and we netted about $5,100.....many, many thanks to donors and buyers. There were great items from so many different places and your travels and gifts made the auction unique.

  • Are you counting the number of student visits to your state legislature? I have heard only from a few states.....our goal is 9,000 visits....and we are currently under 1,000....let me know asap.

  • Did you pay your $25 dues? Form is online under About Us.

  • Do not forget to get your students involved in the ISP Annual
Contest. Go to: http://www.statepolicy.org/contest/official-rules.html. The ISP
awards luncheon and ceremony wiil be in DC with The Policy Conference
on Sunday, June 18, 2006. Be there with your winning students!

  • Most of you have heard from me re The Policy Conference. Early bird registration is still available until March 15...go to register online at our site: http://www.vcu.edu/slwweb/PolicyConf06/PolicyConf06_registration.html and check out the outstanding program and sessions at: http://www.vcu.edu/slwweb/PolicyConf06/PolicyConf06_agenda.html#Preview Support the conference because ISP is a co-sponsor!

  • Three ISP task forces will be holding roundtables at The Policy Conference in DC. "Developing MSW/BSW Legislative-related Field Placements," "Facilitating Site-Visitor's Capacity to Evaluate Policy Practice Curriculum Approaches," and "Student Policy Advocacy When the School is Distant from the Capitol." You may want to join them. From these roundtables, we hope to produce direction, strategies, exemplars, and other products that should help us in these arenas.

  • In Chicago during the APM of CSWE, ISP enjoyed a series of wonderful events and exchanges. The auction was a lot of work, but a lot of fun, and we made some money for another video. Our Saturday night 10th meeting celebration was attended by at least 60 people and we honored our Charter Members, MSW/BSW contest winners from TN,LA,WA,LA,CT and TX and PhD dissertation winner. We heard a rousing speech from an MSW member of the IL Legislation. I am going to post our latest ISP FACT SHEET on our website so you can see the impressive numbers. Website visits will be at 75,000 soon. We gained new members. Thanks to all who helped, particularly Dr. Ed Gumz of Loyola U of Chicago who organized the dinner. Thanks to those who helped staff the booth and auction set up.

Til April....all the best to each of you.....Bob
