ISP Update / June/July, 2007
GREETINGS
- Greetings, ISP Board Members, Liaisons, Friends and Others:
Let me bring you up to date with some of our ISP news items of late. I hope you are having a bit of good weather out your way and a chance to vacation and relax somewhere you love to be.
On or about June 21, 2007, ISP's webpage registered its 100,000 viewer!!!!! Congrats to us! We, of course, want more and more students, faculty and practitioners to use this link, so keep using it yourself and urge others to do so too.
In this regard, ISP has just hired a new webmaster, Ms. Vasantha Buddiga, someone here in Richmond. She will be examining our site and making suggestions for improvements and if you have any, now is the time to let me and her know. We are going to make it a major project this fall to correct the listing of the Liaisons at each school. It is way out of date and I apologize. We will be adding a FAQ section as well. Thanks to Joseph Reiter of Atlanta by way of the U. of Florida School of Social Work who served so ably as our webmaster for the past 8-9 years. He solved many problems for us and the site, and helped it reach our members and others. Thank you, Joseph!
The ISP contest 2007 is completed, reviewed by 24 judges from across the country, and we are notifying the winning entries. In the BSW category, Ms. Kajsa Anderson and four of her colleagues from the University of Washington at Tacoma Dept. of Social Work along with faculty member Dr. Gina Breukelman were selected as most outstanding. Other BSW programs take note here: this is the 3rd year IN A ROW that the University of Washington at Tacoma has won! Let's give them some competition next year. In the MSW category, Ms.Jennifer Greenfield of St. Louis University School of Social Services had an entry that almost drew perfect scores. Her faculty mentor was Ms. Ashley Cruce, Director of the Doerr Center for Social Justice Education and Research at SLU.We will be posting their complete entry submissions very shortly on the website under the Contest label. Give Vasantha and me a few weeks to do this, but you will be most impressed and inspired to lead your students next year. Other entries are being notified in the next two weeks. Thanks to all who participated.
The annual meeting of ISP will take place on Sunday, October 28, 2007 at 5:45 - 6:45 PM in the Lombard Room of the San Francisco Hilton Hotel during the APM of CSWE. Contest and PhD awards will be given out then as well as a special speaker TBA. Please put us on your conference schedule now.
Please alert your PhD program directors of the upcoming ISP PhD Dissertation Award---go to our website and click on Dissertation.....so that their PhD students can be readying themselves to apply. $2000 should help attract them, no?
You have all heard probably that ALL major social work organizations are going to form ONE major social work organization to better leverage our social work message and interests. This just came out from CSWE and NASW. The goal is to have such a singular organization in place by 2012. Let's reflect on our own ISP mission and see how we can contribute to the dialogue that is going to take place soon. As we say, we want a place at the table....this will policy setting of a particularly professional set of issues that will affect each of us......let me know your ideas and willingness to represent ISP in various meetings and discussions that will be forthcoming.
The video on coalition building is coming along nicely.....script is done. Many interviews are in. We have added animation this time as well as "real people." Production date is still late fall, 2007.
If any of you have a particular issue that you think ISP should focus on during the coming year, let me know and we can incorporate it into our master plan that is due out in on September 1. We can always generate a small task group to address it.
