Keep Up With Current Social Issues in Your State!

"New federalism" or the increased shift of power from the federal government to the states, has many implications for the profession of social work. Decisions and policies about social work clients' well-being, agency priorities, funding sources, and professional role(s) in program implementation will all be likely subjects of change as power, decision-making and responsibility move inevitably towards the individual states. Clicking on the map above will connect you to Stateline.org: Your source for state news. Once you are on their page, click on a state to get a frequently updated political composition of the legislature and dates when the lawmakers are in session. Each state page also includes economic and demographic data that will help you interpret the latest state news (a shortcut to information that also appears in today's roundup) and links to both the state and state legislature Web sites.
