Examples of such a project might include but not be limited to: organizing clients to present testimony at public hearings; lobby state agencies as a member of coalition; conducting a survey of legislators viewpoints; getting a bill introduced by a legislator; planning a rally day; giving testimony before a subcommittee; designing and carrying out a research study on state policy, etc. Ask the ISP liaison or a faculty member for help or clarification about your idea for a project.  Check the sample student projects for past winning student projects and other entries.

For All Students

Be sure to include your name, address, current phone number, your email address and the name and level (BSW or MSW) of your social work program on your email to which you have attached your entry Word document file.  DO NOT put your name on the two-page Word document.  Students may include in the email the name of the faculty member from their program who has promoted their participation in the contest and assisted them in reviewing the two-page document.

For Faculty

Awards: Two (2) awards will be made to faculty: one at the BSW level and one at the MSW level;  $500 cash and an engraved plaque will be given to each of the two winners. Faculty are encouraged to promote the 2008 ISP contest among their students.  Why?  It’s the only way a faculty member can win $500; In order to win the faculty award at the BSW or MSW level, (1) a faculty member’s student must win first place and the $1,000 award in their category; and (2) the faculty member must be listed on the student’s email accompanying the student’s two page Word document entry as noted above. Faculty should provide their phone number and email address. Faculty may assist the student (s) without restriction.

Deadline: All entries must be received by email no later than midnight, May 7, 2008, No entries received after this date will be reviewed.

Judges: A committee of social work faculty and students selected by ISP will review all entries and determine the winners.  Their decisions will be final.
